Theresa Berger Moore is a professional dance artist, certified dance instructor, and choreographer with nearly a decade of experience in concert dance and teaching in varied styles.
Growing up in Iowa, Theresa’s early dance training was under Nancy Moore Overturff. She spent summers training at intensives such as American Ballet Theatre, on scholarship to the Joffrey Ballet in NYC, and at the Giordano Dance Center in Evanston, IL. Theresa has been honored through Iowa Dance Theatre’s hall of fame, as she spent many years performing in IDT’s, The Nutcracker, including the soloist roles of Rose Queen and Snow Queen. Theresa cherishes her experiences of competing over the years and was honored to hold the title of Miss Dance of Mid America Chapter #34. At the University of Iowa, under the direction of George de la Pena, Theresa performed in works by Armando Duarte, Alan Sener, Deanna Carter, and Kristin Marrs among others. In addition to many performances in faculty, graduate, and student shows, Theresa’s own choreography was also showcased.
Theresa’s choreography has been showcased at Denver School of the Arts, on the YAGP stage, and beyond, as she’s taught and choreographed for many Denver area schools. She has also been honored with the choreography award presented by Cleo Parker Robinson while instructing for the CPRD Academy.
Theresa moved back to her home state of Iowa after an extensive career in Denver, Colorado where she danced for Kim Robards Dance, Moraporvida Contemporary Dance, and The Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Ensemble, an internationally renowned modern repertory company. Theresa has danced in works by master choreographers from around the world including Milton Myers, Donald McKayle, Katherine Dunham, Talley Beatty, Garfield Lemonious, Rennie Harris, and Viviana Basanta of the Ballet Folklorico de Mexico among many others. Her most memorable performances include dancing as a soloist in Katherine Dunham’s Southland, as soloist in Cleo Parker Robinson’s The Move/ment in collaboration with Colorado Ballet, and her last mainstage performance at the American Dance Festival at 5 months pregnant with her daughter Nova.
Through touring, performing, teaching, and educational outreach, she’s developed a great passion for community and connection through movement. She’s had the pleasure of teaching everywhere from preschools, community centers, and churches, to arts high schools, established dance institutes, festivals, universities, and professional dance companies. From a very first ballet class to adult recreation, to seasoned and refined dance artists, Theresa finds value and great joy in the experience of sharing her knowledge and love of dance at every level.
In addition to Theresa’s diverse performance career and teaching experience in the classroom, she’s passionate about continuing education. Theresa has been certified by Nan Giordano to teach the Giordano Technique in levels Basic and Beginning is a certified Progressing Ballet Technique instructor and holds a 200 hr yoga teacher certification.
Theresa Moore is an ABT® Certified Teacher, who has successfully completed the ABT® Teacher Training Intensive in Pre-Primary through Level 5 of the ABT® National Training Curriculum.
She is committed to her ongoing personal growth and training as a dance educator, striving to be a generous source of knowledge to pour into her students.
A passionate advocate for dancer health and wellness, Theresa teaches with great care, ensuring that her students are placed at the appropriate level for their development to keep them safe from injury. She believes that strong dance training includes a curriculum, knowledge of the history of dance, an understanding of how the body works, and a safe space where each student feels the freedom to express themselves and be inspired to reach their greatest potential. In training the whole dancer, the whole person grows. Most importantly, Ms. Theresa is fervent about fostering each student’s individual artistry, and sharing in the collective JOY that dance brings to us all!
